After a successful first edition in 2020, the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout competition makes its comeback in the Souss-Massa region. For the 2023 edition, the world’s best surfers are expected from February 18 to 26 in Taghazout Bay, to contest the world-class waves of Anchor Point.
According to La Vie Éco, the dates chosen for the event are ideal from a weather perspective for this important step in the World Surf League’s 2022-2023 Qualifying Series. “The long winter swells and offshore winds offer epic conditions at the Pointe des Ancres”, writes the weekly.
Still according to the same source, this edition is supported by Rip Curl, Taghazout Bay, the region Souss-Massa and Cih Bank. It represents an opportunity for the region to “shine internationally and strengthen its position as a surfing destination known for its world-class spots.
Because it must be said that the beaches of the region of Agadir are now among the most popular surfing destinations. According to the weekly, this international reputation is reinforced by the success of Moroccan champions of the discipline, such as Ramzi Boukhiam, Brahim Iddouch or Othmane Choufani.
In this sense, these Moroccan surfers known internationally are “standard bearers” for the destination. Similarly, the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay is, according to La Vie Éco, “undeniably a great promotion for the resort and all its periphery with significant impact on the occupancy rates of hotels in the area.
In its weekly edition, La Vie Éco reminds us that it is important to act on several levels to maintain and strengthen this dynamic made possible by surfing. Thus, it is advisable to multiply the accommodation products adapted to surfers. Tourism professionals call for the reinforcement of air transport and the opening up of this part of the coastline.
