Many Moroccans have left Spain to spend the summer holidays in Portugal, which has thus become their favorite destination.
After two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, Moroccans are eager to travel. Some are already spending their first post-Covid summer vacation abroad. Portugal is popular with many Moroccan tourists. The beaches (those of the Algarve, quiet and sparsely populated), the gastronomy… explain their choice to leave Spain, their favorite destination, for Portugal. “As lovers of nature and wild beaches, we did a lot of research when we were still stranded in Morocco on the destination where we could flourish the most, and we were surprised by the change of scenery that could offer us Portugal, yet very close geographically to Morocco, ”says SnrtNews a young couple married during the health crisis.
“Everyone tends to automatically head to Spain. The Costa del Sol (south coast of Spain) is very popular, which leads to a considerable increase in the prices of accommodation, food… and then, it is not pleasant to spend your holidays in full beaches. The beaches of the Algarve, in the south of Portugal, are still spared from mass tourism,” he adds. Another couple had the happy experience of spending holidays in the central and northern regions of the country, between the capital Lisbon and the city of Porto. “The villages located in this region of Portugal are very charming. The infrastructures put in place by the Portuguese authorities also make it possible to visit several destinations by train, and at low cost. We, who used to spend a lot of money in Spain, are very surprised by this beautiful market destination,” he explains.
Portuguese gastronomy? Moroccan tourists love it. Their favorite dishes are: cataplanas, bouillabaisse and other fish dishes. Vacationers testify: “Portuguese gastronomy is perhaps not one of the most famous cuisines in the world, but that is why we chose Portugal as a destination: the need for discovery”.
