Laâyoune airport will undergo renovation work in the coming weeks, in order to respond to the sustained growth in passenger traffic.
Concretely, this will involve strengthening the movement areas, aeronautical pavements, the sides of the runway, as well as the extension of aircraft parking lots and widening the traffic lanes leading to the airport and renovating the LED technology beaconing system, the National Airports Office (ONDA) said in a statement.
This work will be added to the many projects started since 2019, in particular the construction of an official reception building and the renewal this year of equipment and instruments to aid air navigation and communication.
According to the office, these renovation projects aim to increase the reception capacities of regional airports and the generalization of compliance with international standards in terms of air traffic flow, aviation security, airport security and quality of services.
