American actress Susan Sarandon, new ambassador for the luxury hotel brand Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, is passionate about travel and in love with Morocco, where she has visited several times. She has very fond memories of it.
“I think traveling really opens the mind,” she told The National. “If you are curious, you are exposed to all kinds of cultures and the beauty of nature. I think it’s very lucky if you can travel, and it’s very important to try to get there, ”adds this travel enthusiast who shares this culture and passion with her daughter Eva Amurri, 36, and his sons Jack Robbins, 32, and Miles Robbins, 29. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the 75-year-old actress visited Morocco, one of her favorite destinations, several times.
“Morocco is pretty amazing, it’s a very different culture and it’s a really easy trip from New York. I mean, it’s the same as going to California. I went to Marrakech […] because there is a festival that I did, ”she said, referring to the Marrakech International Film Festival. Besides the ocher city, she visited Fez and Essaouira. “I loved Fez even more. It’s a little friendlier, it’s smaller, but it has the same kind of interesting personality and just isn’t as huge, busy, and touristy. And Essaouira, I also went a few times, ”she said.
In 1998, the Oscar winner traveled to Morocco in 1998, in the middle of filming the movie Stepmom. “I understood that the schedules allowed that during the Christmas holidays we could go to Morocco. I think my youngest at the time was 5 years old, ”she says. Susan Sarandon says she is happy to have made her travels. “I was very grateful for the experience of going to Morocco and teaching my kids about the culture, the call to prayer, and everything, before September 11 (2001). Because they had experience of this culture which then made it difficult to accept the most superficial explanation of what was going on at the time. “
