The Moroccan national team won the 30th edition of the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (OPAM 2023), held from May 13 to 22 in Kigali, Rwanda, says the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports.
Thus, the Moroccan student Hiba Ferchioui was crowned “Queen of Mathematics in Africa”, after having dominated the women’s table, followed by her compatriot Zaineb Charqui, said the ministry in a statement.
Similarly, the Moroccan team won two gold medals (Hiba Ferchioui and Ayman Hajifi), three silver (Zakaria Dro, Yassir Abousir and Zaineb Charqui) and one bronze (Maroua Zidouni).
The OPAM 2023, which brought together students of secondary education, were marked by the participation of a total of 32 countries represented by a team of 6 students (3 girls and 3 boys).
Following this performance, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports congratulated the students who honored Morocco during this pan-African scientific event, as well as the supervisors who supervised their preparation for this competition, while wishing them good luck at the next International Mathematical Olympiad scheduled for next July in Japan.
