Partnership between OMPIC and the European Patent Office

A virtual meeting was held on Wednesday September 23 between the Director General of the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office (OMPIC), Abdelaziz Babqiqi and the President of the European Patent Office (EPO), António Campinos, to to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC).

The purpose of the CPC is to further stimulate inventive activity in Morocco, through the dissemination of technical knowledge and efficient access to data relating to patents and patent documents, a statement said.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the means of developing the patent system and the promotion of innovation and the establishment of services and tools facilitating the protection of inventions and patents.

Morocco’s action was highlighted in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s global innovation index, which highlights Morocco’s place in the top 10 of the ranking of “industrial designs by origin / billion of GDP in PPP “.
