Morocco received the Energy Globe National Award 2021 on Thursday for its energy efficiency project linked to the “solar pumping for agricultural irrigation” program.
The honor, won by the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), was presented at a ceremony held at the residence of the Austrian Ambassador in Rabat.
The project aims to contribute to improving the productivity of plantations, adapting to climate change and achieving the strategic objective of the Green Morocco Plan, but also to strengthen food security in Morocco, while supporting the low carbon and climate resilient development of Morocco.
On the occasion, the director of the agency, Saïd Mouline, indicated that it is “the energy transition driven by the Moroccan authorities, and which affects all sectors that is winning today”.
As a reminder, Morocco, which suffers from a water shortage and the growing effects of climate change, has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 66% by 2030 through a series of nationally determined contributions.
