About 300,000 Moroccans will benefit from literacy programs in mosques for the year 2021-2022, according to data provided by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.
Between 2000 and 2021, 3,911,384 people were able to follow literacy classes given in mosques across the Kingdom, the ministry said in a report on the measures taken as part of this national program during the current year and those planned. in 2022.
Regarding the 2020-2021 period, the ministry said enrollments in Levels I and II of the program totaled 283,758 in 6,677 places of worship across the country. About 7,959 supervisors, accompanied by 1,188 coordinators and educational advisers and 401 educational trainers, led these courses, it is specified.
For 2022, the supervisory authority intends to improve the program by increasing the number of supervisors to 10,000, increasing the coverage rate in rural areas by 5% and expanding the target categories among men.
To achieve this, the ministry will adopt new teaching methods for level II. It’s about experiencing distance learning and even televised lessons. The aim is to reduce the obstacles to massive literacy.
