About 28 million Moroccans, or 75% of the population, have access to the Internet and nearly 22 million use social networks, according to a recent study.
In its latest report on the use of the Internet and social networks worldwide, Datareportal reports that the number of internet users worldwide has exceeded five billion users. Morocco has nearly 28 million people with Internet access, nearly 75% of the population and 2.3 million more than last year.
Regarding social networks, 60% of the Moroccan population, mostly young people, are active on these platforms, which represents an increase of 10% compared to last year. Better, with the restrictive measures linked to the health crisis, the number of users of social networks in Morocco rose to 22.2 million, an increase of 4% compared to 2020.
The use of the Internet and social networks has increased with the advent of smartphones, also notes the report, specifying that in Morocco, 98.1% of the population aged 16 to 64 has a smartphone, against About 28% for those with a computer and just under 13% for those with tablets. More than 92% use the smartphone to connect to social networks, underlines the document which also notes that 32.2% of the population use the mobile to make online purchases.
WhatsApp is at the top of the favorite social networks of Moroccans. According to data published by the report, 7 in 10 Moroccans have downloaded the messaging application, or 73.7% of the population. It is followed by Facebook (70%), YouTube (66%), Instagram (51.6%), TikTok (37%), Snapchat (26%) and Twitter (22%).
