Some 300,000 Moroccan students drop out of school every year, according to the Minister of National Education, Preliminary Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, who was speaking before the Committee on Education, Culture and communication from the House of Representatives.

According to the Minister, “these data and facts negatively affect the human development indicators in our country given the close link between the reality of the education system and Morocco’s position in the ranks of human development in general”.

As an emergency solution, the Minister of National Education indicated that his department is working to considerably reduce the phenomenon of school dropout. This involves taking several measures set out in the National Program for the Development of Primary Education.

Moreover, the number of primary education incubator departments increased from 37,298 during the 2017-2018 school year to 45,157 departments for the current year. In addition, the ministry intends to work on improving the quality of primary education, in order to allow students to be better trained.
