Comedy fans around the world will be disappointed to learn that the “Marrakech du rire” festival will not be held this year. The organizers announced on Thursday, March 23, 2023, via their Twitter account, that the 2023 edition of the festival has been postponed due to restoration work at the Badii Palace, where the event was traditionally held.
In a statement relayed by the television channel M6, the organizers said that the postponement was decided “by attachment to the identity of the Festival” and that no other place could replace the Palais Badii, which had seen the birth and growth of the event.
The festival “Marrakech du rire” was created in 2011 by the Moroccan comedian Jamel Debbouze, who is still one of the organizers. Since its inception, the festival has hosted many artists from around the world and has become one of the most important events in the international comedy scene.
The organizers did not specify a new date for the postponed edition, but assured that the festival would return as soon as possible. In the meantime, comedy fans will have to find other ways to be entertained.
