Thus, the activity shows an increase of +45% in number and +28.1% in amount compared to the year 2020, indicates the CMI which has just made public its report on Moroccan electronic payment activity under the year 2021.
The online payment activity of Moroccan cards increased by +44.5% in number of operations to 19.9 million transactions and by +27.1% in amount to 7.3 billion dirhams during the past year, says the same source.
With regard to the activity of online payments for foreign cards, it increased by +57.7% in number of operations, rising to 794,000 transactions and by +47.4% in amount to 447.1 million dirhams (MDH), informs the CMI, noting, in this sense, that the activity remains very strongly dominated by Moroccan cards up to 96.2% in number of transactions and 94.2% in amount.
The report also shows that merchants and e-Merchants affiliated with the CMI recorded 111.9 million payment transactions, by Moroccan and foreign bank cards, for a total amount of 46 billion dirhams, up 32.1%. in number of transactions and 24.8% in amount.
In terms of volume, payments by Moroccan and foreign bank cards are spread over mass distribution (25.2%), clothing (10.6%), hotels (7.2%), resorts (7% ), restaurants (6.2%), furniture and household appliances (5.6%), health (5.4%) and other sectors (32.6%).
