Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez, 58, member of the Ciudadanos party, deputy for Madrid in Congress and secretary general of his party’s parliamentary group, claims that the Polisario is a terrorist organization that has murdered hundreds of Spanish citizens.
“Some may hide behind fine words, such as the rights of the Saharawi people, and good intentions, but defending an organization like the Polisario, which for me is equivalent to defending ETA (Basque separatist terrorist organization), is something that this hemicycle should in no way tolerate. Make no mistake about it: the Polisario is a terrorist group. They murdered 289 Spanish citizens,” said the Spanish elected official.
According to the explanations of the man who was several times director of public and private institutions in Spain, the Spanish citizens killed are the Canarian sailors whose fishing boats were targeted by the Polisario militiamen during the 70s and 80s in the area between the Sahara and the Canary Islands. Remarks corroborated by the Canarian Association of Victims of Terrorism (Acavite) which has made the defense of Spanish citizens murdered by the independence movement its hobbyhorse.
