Morocco expels two Norwegian women from the Sahara

-

Moroccan authorities on Monday expelled from Laayoune, in southern Morocco, two Norwegian women visiting the city and planning to meet Sahrawi activists.

The Moroccan police expelled the two Norwegians who had not obtained authorization to visit the city of Laâyoune and intended to meet there with Saharawi activists and leaders of the Saharawi Civil Society Association, reports a media close to the Polisario.

“Two Norwegian citizens have been expelled from Western Sahara. They are Marte Hettervik and Bjørg Helene Lorentzen, 23 years old. Both are studying social anthropology at the University of Bergen,” the Norwegian Western Sahara Support Association posted on its Twitter account.

The two expelled Norwegians had traveled to the Sahara to investigate the situation of Sahrawis in general and human rights defenders in particular.
