The Qatari channel beIN Sports is under fire in Algeria, especially because of the treatment made by its journalists of the controversy on the opening ceremony of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022) and the absence of Morocco in this competition.
The channel published on its official page that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has “denounced” the political statements made on Friday 13 January during the opening ceremony of the CHAN 2022 at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Algiers, while CAF has simply indicated in a statement issued on Sunday, January 15 that it will verify whether the statements in question violate its statutes and the rules of the CHAN, says TSA Algeria, specifying that the publication was then corrected on the Facebook page of beIN SPORTS.
Beyond this interpretation of the CAF communiqué, the sports commentator Jaouad Bedda is accused of relaying the position of Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on the subject of Morocco’s absence from the CHAN. “Morocco has not been able to travel to Algeria for reasons that everyone knows,” said the journalist who explained Monday that the Moroccan selection has not been declared a forfeit. But in the evening of the same day, CAF issued a statement announcing the withdrawal of Morocco, said the same source.
