“The Moroccan Sahara remains the compass that defines the direction and traces the path,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. According to the Head of Moroccan diplomacy, most of the international community does not recognize the Polisario.
This declaration comes within the framework of the presentation of the head of diplomacy during the discussion of the sectoral budget of the ministry before the committee of foreign affairs, national defense, Islamic affairs and Moroccans residing abroad, at the House of Representatives .
Nasser Bourita said that three other countries have expressed their intention to open consulates in the southern regions, namely Chad, Somalia and Guatemala, recalling that several countries have withdrawn their “formal” recognition of the entity fictitious in 2022, namely 84% of UN member states do not recognize the self-proclaimed and “fictitious” republic.
The head of diplomacy thus indicated that the countries recognizing the fictitious entity, represent only a minority at the international level, including those who have inherited these positions, sometimes dogmatic and ideological.
The Minister added, moreover, that the Moroccan Sahara is the reference by which and through which Morocco distinguishes ambiguous positions from clear positions and the means of measuring the depth and sincerity of these friendships, but it is also the decisive factor in the promotion and development of partnerships.
In the same vein, Nasser Bourita, underlined that King Mohammed VI established, during the royal speech of August 20, a well-defined approach in the management of the various challenges of the Kingdom’s foreign policy, around the question of the Moroccan Sahara. , noting that it is a pragmatic and realistic approach, which goes far from the logic and narratives of the Cold War.
