Algeria no longer wants Moroccan planes in its airspace

Almost a month after the severance of its diplomatic relations with Morocco, Algeria has decided to “immediately close” its airspace to Moroccan civil and military planes and to those with a Moroccan registration number, from this Wednesday 22 September 2021.

Algeria has decided to “immediately close Algerian airspace for all Moroccan civil and military planes, as well as those bearing a Moroccan registration number, as of today,” said a statement from the Algerian presidency. .

On August 24, Algerian foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra announced that Algeria had decided to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco. Algiers notably reproaches Rabat for the support of Omar Hilale, permanent representative of the kingdom to the United Nations, to the “valiant Kabyle people”, the statements of the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs during his historic visit to Rabat, old incidents, such as the desecration of the Algerian flag at the Casablanca consulate in 2013.
