For the 2021-2022 season, the export volume of avocados grown in Morocco is expected to increase to 40,000 tonnes, 15 to 20% more than the previous year.
This performance is attributable to the entry into production of new orchards of the Hass variety, which supplies most of the shipments intended for export mainly to the European Union (EU), reported the magazine Fruitrop from CIRAD.
“The first Hass exports started in the first part of November, a little ahead of the usual schedule. Arrivals on the Community market should continue to gain momentum, peaking during the month of December and continuing in January ”, it is specified.
Morocco would move closer to Africa’s second-largest avocado exporter, South Africa, if this forecast is met, the magazine said, according to which the kingdom is currently the 11th global supplier of the fruit.
