Morocco is down two places in the 2021 annual ranking of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), released on Monday. However, the kingdom remains in the top 100 worldwide, ranking 77th place.
In its latest report, the UN agency assessed the strengths and weaknesses in different categories, primarily to determine the capabilities and success of innovation in the economy of each country.
To this end, PMOI analysts described Morocco as “above the expected level, given the level of development. They determined that Morocco’s innovation was much higher, compared to countries with similar GDP per capita.
However, Morocco has lost two places compared to the ranking of 2020, and finds in the 77th place for this year out of 132 countries. This position ranks it 12ᵉ in Africa and 19ᵉ in the Arab world.
Switzerland, Sweden, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and South Korea remain at the top of the innovation ranking, in the top five places, as has already been the case for three years.
