Morocco’s airports recorded, during the period from June 15 to August 31, 2021, an international commercial traffic volume of 3,560,526 passengers, accommodated through 31,202 international flights, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA). This volume represents a recovery rate compared to the same period of the year 2019, of 65% for passengers and 77% for movements, specifies ONDA in its report of commercial air traffic for the period from June 15. until August 31, 2021.
Casablanca / Mohammed V airport welcomed 1,457,154 international passengers, thus recovering 58% of 2019 traffic, while Marrakech airport with 565,680 passengers, recorded a recovery rate of 46%, indicates the same source. . Other airports even exceeded their 2019 traffic, namely, in particular, the airports of Tetouan (133%), Nador (127%), Tangier (114%), Al Hoceima (106%) and Oujda (105%).
During the month of August 2021 alone, international commercial traffic at Morocco’s airports recovered 82% of passenger traffic in 2019, a rate rivaling that of countries in the Mediterranean basin, in particular France (70%), Spain ( 68%), and Turkey (76%), notes the Office.
This performance is explained, according to the Office, by the significant evolution of air traffic, following the high royal instructions which accompanied the launch of Operation Marhaba 2021. Thus, several lines have been created and many frequencies have been created. reinforced by airlines, helping to strengthen Morocco’s air connectivity during this period.
