Fake marriages: an MRE scams a dozen Moroccan women

-

Dozens of Moroccan women in the Netherlands were victims of a scam orchestrated by Brahim M., a Moroccan-Dutch man who had promised them marriage. The suspected scammer was arrested by Dutch police in Amsterdam.

His arrest follows the filing of several complaints by women “from whom he allegedly extorted large sums of money without keeping his promise of marriage”, reports De Telegraaf. His modus operandi is to target women, gain their trust and then promise them marriage. Brahim M. then undertook to organize the marriage and then asked the young women for money, alleging small financial problems. Once the money was received, it disappeared.

Seven victims finally decided to file a complaint against him. Together, they would have given him nearly 82,000 euros. “The money you have to pay back is nothing compared to what you did to me. You destroyed my life. As far as I know, you are a Muslim, but you pushed me to the point where I had to lie to my parents. My bond with them is broken,” one victim said in tears. The Attorney General requested a 30-month prison sentence, including two years suspended. Verdict Friday, December 2.
